In thousand years of history and civilization, Ninh Binh has been known as a spiritual land with preeminent people. Especially in the struggle against foreign invaders, this was the place of birth of many heroes, standing out among whom was Great Emperor – Dinh Tien Hoang who crushed 12 warlords to become emperor and founded the country Dai Co Viet, the first centralized feudal state in the history of Vietnam.

Geographically, Ninh Binh is a province located in the South polar of the North, belonging to the North Delta of Vietnam. According to the economic development plan, Ninh Binh belongs to the Northern coastal areas.

Ninh Binh has an important location of the gateway and key economic region of the North. Ninh Binh is a place to connect and perform economic exchanges between the cultures of the Red River basin with the Ma River basin, between the North Delta and Northwest mountainous areas.

With regards to economic aspect, Ninh Binh is a province with a lower starting point than the other provinces along the Red River Delta region as it is the crossroad between the mountains and delta. The strength of the provincial economy is agriculture together with the industry of building materials and tourism.

Despite the advantages of natural resources from the mountains, sea and Day River basin delta, particularly the National Highway 1 and north-south rail lines going through, Ninh Binh is still a poor agricultural province after twenty years of country liberation.

Realizing the huge potential for local economic development from the industry of building materials with relatively abundant materials such as limestone which has a very large reserves, clay stone and iron ore… Hoang Phat Investment and Development Trading Company, which is now known as Hoang Phat – Vissai Corporation decided to build a modern cement plant in the purely agricultural countryside in Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province.

On 25 October 2005, in Gian Khau marshland area in Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province, the first geological exploration drilling was completed signaling a wonderful change to be taken place on this land.

On 14 February 2007, State President of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet and leaders of Party, State, and locality paid a visit to the works, then had a meeting with the company executives and advised “Dear all, please stand in solidarity with mental focus to build up Vinakansai to become the pioneer in the construction and economic development in Ninh Binh homeland “.

On 24 February 2007, Line 1 – Vinakansai Ninh Binh Cement Plant with capacity of 1.2 million tons a year was inaugurated. The first ton of cement branded Vinakansai Cement was released, contributing to the building of homeland with common joys of company leaders and hundreds of workers, employees and foreign experts. Moreover, this is a record of the construction industry in Vietnam as within only 11 months of ongoing construction, with 80 thousand tons of concrete, 20 thousand tons of steel, 12 tons of equipment and thanks to the contributions of 500 domestic engineer and foreign experts, a superb palatial modern plant has been completed on Ninh Binh flooded rice area.

On 22 February 2008, Line 2 – Vinakansai Ninh Binh Cement Plant with capacity of 6000 tons of clinker/day was inaugurated, increasing total plant capacity to 3.6 million tons/year.

In May 2008, the Company acquired Vietnamese Russian Steel Plant, which is now known as Vinakansai Steel Plant to be better suited to the enterprise’s growth. Members’ Council held a meeting and unanimously approved to change the Company’s name from Vinakansai Cement Co., Ltd to The Vissai Cement Group.

On 4 February 2009, The Vissai Cement Group was officially established with diversified business activities and operation in various fields, which shows a strategic view of the Group Members’ Council and leadership.

On 26 October 2009, (at 9 o’clock, 9 minutes and 9 seconds on lunar 9 September, 2009) Line II – The Vissai Ninh Binh cement plant officially came into operation, increasing the Group’s total cement production capacity to 3.6 million tons/year. This is the typical work in Vietnam building materials industry to achieve high performance in construction progress and ensure the required quality and output.

Year 2010 also marked the year of The Vissai’s outstanding development while the Government and Ha Nam Provincial People’s Committee has agreed to assign The Vissai to implement the entire Vinashin Ha Nam Cement Plant, which is now known as Vissai Ha Nam Cement Company. Up to now, the Group’s capacity has been raised to 6.2 million tons/year.

At present, The Vissai has been gradually becoming a non-state economic group trading in diversified sectors and fields, with main business activities as cement manufacturing branded The Vissai.
